LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Thousands of Southern California residents remain without power on Wednesday afternoon, as the unusually hot weather continues.
Some people have been without power for three days, with temperatures hitting triple digits in many areas.
Nina Kashefi of Sherman Oaks said it's been so hot, they have been unable to sleep.
"It's really hot, so my husband woke up in the middle of the night and took two cold showers," she said.
Southern California Edison said 2,856 customers are without power still, with 1,800 of those in Los Angeles County. L.A. Department of Water and Power said they still have 1,700 customers without power. A circuit failure has knocked out power to 1,200 customers near Whitnall Highway in North Hollywood, DWP said.
Residents were urged to conserve energy by setting air-conditioning thermostats at 78 degrees or higher, using electric fans instead of air conditioning when practical, turning off unused appliances and equipment, limiting how often you open your refrigerator door and avoiding operating energy-intensive appliances later morning through the evening hours.
