Woman fatally shot while waiting for taxi in Inglewood; manhunt underway

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A manhunt is underway in Inglewood Thursday after a woman was shot to death in an apparent drive-by shooting overnight.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 800 block of Victor Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. and found a woman fatally shot.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Inglewood police said the woman was waiting for a taxi with a male companion when a car pulled up alongside them and someone opened fire.

Investigators didn't have a description on a suspect or suspects but said they were working on some leads.

Neighborhood residents said such violence is rare for that particular street.

"Something like this doesn't happen -- hasn't happened here in a long time. The neighborhood has come a long way, so it's definitely sad and disappointing to hear about that," a neighbor said.

Anyone with information on the incident was urged to call police.
