Firefighters rescue horse that fell 60 feet into Hollywood Hills ravine

HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles firefighters worked to rescue a horse that fell 60 feet into a ravine Sunday night.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a 911 call from park rangers who reported that a horse was stuck in a ravine in the 3400 block of Beachwood Drive in the Hollywood Hills.

Firefighters were sent to the scene and set up a rope system to safely lower rescuers down into the ravine to assess and calm the horse. The horse suffered minor injuries.

The LAFD worked with park rangers, animal regulations, USAR specialists, veterinarians and other specialists to figure out a way to bring the horse to safety.

Rescuers used a helicopter hoist and covered the horse's ears and eyes to keep it calm, as well as prevent particles from getting in its eyes.

Authorities believe the horse, which normally stays in a stable, was on a narrow trail and may have lost its footing.
