LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A non-verbal girl was on her way home to be reunited with her family after being found Monday morning in the Ladera Heights area, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The LAPD released a photo of the girl, adding that she possibly has autism and is about 10 years old.

She was found in the area of Knowlton Street and La Tijera Boulevard around 9:30 a.m., police said.

"We do not know her name," the LAPD said on Twitter, asking for the public's help in finding her parents.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., authorities announced that the girl's caretaker had been contacted and was en route to the LAPD's Pacific Division station to pick here up.

"Thank you community for helping us keep her safe," police said.
