Slopes ripe for skiing, snowboarding after overnight snow

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (KABC) -- If you're traveling up to the San Bernardino Mountains, you're urged to take caution as the roads have become icy and dangerous.

While many concerns come with six inches of snow falling overnight, it's a welcomed condition for those hitting the slopes at Snow Summit.

Several skiers and snowboarders flocked to the mountains on Monday after hearing about the snowfall.

"Perfect weather and hardly any wind, powder is wonderful, can't complain at all," Nick Hipwell of Las Vegas said.

Hipwell drove all the way in from Nevada after he and his friends made a last minute decision following the overnight storm.

Because it stayed cold on Monday, the snowmakers were able to run all day long, allowing conditions to get even better.

At even higher elevations, like Green Valley Lake which sits at about 7,000 feet above sea level, there was even more snow.

"The El Nino came up, the Pacific jet stream came down and bam here we are," Richard Steward of Green Valley Lake said.

"We've been waiting for it," said Jonathan Huskey of Green Valley Lake. "We've had some cold fronts before, but now it's finally here."
