Road buckles, lifts 6 feet after Santa Clarita landslide
Vasquez Canyon Road has buckled and lifted 6 feet in some areas following a Santa Clarita landslide.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A stretch of Vasquez Canyon Road is lifting and buckling following a landslide in Santa Clarita.

A 150-foot stretch of Vasquez Canyon Road between Lost Canyon Road and Vasquez Way is closed until further notice.

The unstable soil is causing cracks in the roadway. In some places, the street has risen more than six feet.

Los Angeles County of Public Works officials said the cracks remain active and continue to expand and rise.

There are no homes or buildings in the immediate area. Officials recommend using Sierra Highway as an alternate.

Southern California Edison transmission and distribution poles in the area have been affected by the unstable land and have been de-energized as a precaution, authorities said.

Public Works Engineers and geologists are investigating the damage.
