Shoppers swarm grocery stores in Thanksgiving rush

TOLUCA LAKE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- For many in Southern California, shoppers dealt with the annual last minute Thanksgiving grocery rush.

As shoppers hurry to grab items for their Thanksgiving feast, it created one of the busiest days for grocery stores.

"Today is a huge day," Von's spokesperson Jenna Watkinson said. "You've got your turkeys, a lot of produce items, some of the non-perishable staple items and even everything to roasting pans."

As the shopping procrastinators flock to super markets, the parking lot outside is a pretty good indicator of the traffic inside the store.

Some shoppers told ABC7 they waited in line for hours to checkout. And if you thought picking up precooked foods would be better, those lines are outrageous also.

Shoppers at the Toluca Lake Honey Baked Ham store waited two hours for their coveted meat.

But the convenience of the precooked meal does have its benefits.

"It's already cooked and all you do is you have to take it out of the refrigerator, let it come to room temperature and you're ready to serve," Tanya Scott with Honey Baked Ham explained.
