2.8-magnitude earthquake hits Newport Beach
A 2.8-magnitude earthquake hit 2 miles east-northeast of Newport Beach Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 2.8-magnitude earthquake hit 2 miles east-northeast of Newport Beach Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at 9:45 a.m. and had a depth of 4.8 miles.

USGS initially estimated it as a 2.9-magnitude earthquake, but the temblor was downgraded to a magnitude-2.8 about five minutes later.

Eyewitness News viewers in Irvine, Costa Mesa, Tustin and Fountain Valley reported feeling the temblor.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
