SAN JACINTO, Calif. (KABC) -- A school lockdown in San Jacinto has been lifted after a suspect who had barricaded himself inside a home for hours was finally taken into custody.

The incident began around 1 p.m. when San Jacinto police responded to a report of shots fired in the 300 block of Idyllwild Drive. When they arrived, they encountered a man who immediately barricaded himself inside the house, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

At least four schools were placed on lockdown as SWAT teams and deputies surrounded the home. The schools were San Jacinto Valley Academy, Monte Vista Middle School, San Jacinto High School and a nearby preschool.

The man later exited the home and was taken into custody. He was not believed to have had any hostages inside with him.

Deputies remained at the scene investigating the incident.
