2 documented gang members killed in separate shootings 1 hour apart in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- Santa Ana police officers were investigating two separate gang-related murders that happened within an hour of each other Thursday night.

The first happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Hazard Avenue. A 24-year-old man was riding his bike when someone drove up next to him, opened fire and then fled the scene.

The victim, identified as Kevin Sotelo, of Santa Ana, was a documented gang member. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second happened at 9:40 p.m. about four miles away in the 400 block of South Birch Street. Two suspects approached a 25-year-old man. Authorities said a fight broke out and then the shooting occurred. The suspects fled on foot.

Authorities identified the victim as documented gang member and Santa Ana resident David Adam Bernal.

No further suspect information for either case was released.
