COLTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver struck and killed a woman who ran through the lanes of the eastbound 10 Freeway in Colton early Tuesday morning.

Around 4:10 a.m., 36-year-old Highland resident Sam Sam Tkach drove his white 2007 Ford Crown Victoria eastbound on the freeway near Mt. Vernon Avenue at 65 mph, authorities said.

An unidentified woman was then seen running southbound across the lanes and was hit by the Ford. Tkach stopped on the right shoulder and called 911 for help. When emergency personnel arrived, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three of the lanes were closed for several hours during the cleanup and initial investigation. Authorities were still investigating the incident.
