Vista L.A. looks at what Latinos have done for the sporting world

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The impact of sports on Latinos and Latinos on sports is evident, from baseball and boxing to auto racing. Here are some up-and-comers shaping the future of some of our favorite past times. From a legend who's been the Spanish voice of L.A. baseball for decades to a Mexican-born driver whose impact on Nascar has been immeasurable, here's what Vista L.A. has in store.

THE SPANISH VOICE OF THE DODGERS

For many Spanish-speaking Dodgers fans, it wouldn't be Dodgers baseball without Jaime Jarrin. The Hall of Fame broadcaster earned the title of "the Spanish voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers" after 58 years behind the microphone. Vista L.A. went in the booth with the legend himself and his son Jorge Jarrin, who is following in his father's footsteps.

PELOTEROS IN PARADISE EXHIBIT

Win or lose, there's no denying the love Latinos have for baseball in Los Angeles. It's a cultural, captivating history and the focus of "Peloteros in Paradise: A Los Angeles Béisbol Story," a new exhibit at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes.

THE HISTORY OF MEXICAN AMERICANS & BASEBALL IN L.A.

Since the 1920s, Mexican-Americans have gravitated to baseball fields throughout Los Angeles as a source for recreation and a social safe haven. Vista L.A.'s Patricia Lopez explores this history with Dr. Richard Santillan, who has written several books on the subject.

BOXING'S GOLDEN GIRL

In 2005, we discovered Seniesa Estrada, an 11-year-old aspiring boxer who stood just 4 feet 8 inches, a tiny kid with a lot of heart in the ring. Fast forward to today, that champ-in-the-making is now a 23-year-old who's still fighting, and who could be L.A.'s first "Golden Girl" of boxing.
