PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A toddler drowned during a Fourth of July party in Palmdale Monday.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies headed to the 37700 block of East 50th Street around 9:45 p.m. Detectives learned that the 3-year-old boy, identified as Joshua Boyd, and his mother attended a party at the home.

The party eventually moved to the front yard of the home where people were able to watch fireworks, and that's when the mother noticed her son was missing, authorities said.

The mother began searching for him and found him in the backyard pool. She quickly pulled him out and began CPR until emergency personnel arrived. The child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was unclear for how long the child was in the water before his mother found him, police said. The investigation was ongoing.
