PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- Victoria Castellanos, a Temple City High School senior, has been chosen to be the 2017 Rose Queen.

She was crowned Thursday during the announcement ceremony in Pasadena. She beat out six other members of the Tournament of Roses Royal Court.

Nearly 1,000 young women interviewed for a chance to be on the court. The court will participate in the Rose Parade on Jan. 2. Castellanos along with the other court members will make nearly 100 community and media appearances before the 128th Rose Parade.

Castellanos is the 99th Rose Queen.
