Suspect wounded in Glendora officer-involved shooting

GLENDORA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect who pointed a weapon at a Glendora police officer was wounded in an officer-involved shooting Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said around 9:45 a.m., police responded to a home in the 700 block of Bagnall Street on reports of a man who was armed with a handgun and suicidal.

When officers arrived, they set up a communication line via telephone with the suspect, attempting to get him to exit the home safely. Authorities said the suspect refused, and a short time later officers heard a gunshot in the home.

A small mechanical device with a camera attached was sent into the home to check on the suspect, but he found the device and threw it back outside. Authorities said the suspect continued to refused efforts by police and the person's family to get them to exit the house.

The suspect eventually stepped out onto the second story balcony, aiming a weapon at an officer. An officer-involved shooting occurred, police said, and the suspect was struck. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

No deputies were injured in the shooting. An assault rifle and semi-automatic handgun were recovered at the scene.
