PERRIS, Calif. (KABC) -- A bicyclist was struck and killed by a car on State Route 74 in Perris Monday afternoon, and authorities are searching for the driver.

Authorities said the crash happened around 3:34 p.m. on the highway near Navajo Road. Investigators learned a dark-colored sedan traveled westbound on the highway against a red light, striking the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was heading southbound on Navajo Road and was believed to be facing a green light to turn eastbound onto the highway. They were taken to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities said the driver fled the scene. The sedan should have damage to the front of the car on the passenger's side and damage to the windshield.

The deceased will not be identified pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation was ongoing.
