WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed man suspected of domestic violence was taken into custody early Monday morning after an hourlsong standoff with a SWAT team at a home near Whittier, authorities said.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 14800 block of Mulberry Drive, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Members of the agency's Special Enforcement Bureau assisted Norwalk Police Department officers at the scene, where nearby homes were evacuated, according to the news release.

A sheriff's crisis negotiation team also responded to the location, and the suspect surrendered without incident at about 2:42 a.m., authorities said. His name was not immediately released.

No injuries were reported.

It was unclear what type of weapon the suspect was allegedly armed with.
