RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- One person is in grave condition while two others were wounded in a car-to-car shooting in Riverside Saturday morning.

Riverside police said around 4:37 a.m., the department received calls about a car-to-car shooting in the 1200 block of University Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male driver inside a red sedan with a gunshot wound to his head. They also found a male driver, who suffered a gunshot wound to his upper arm, and passenger near a silver sedan. All three were hospitalized.

Authorities said the male driver in the red sedan was listed in grave condition. The other two people were treated for minor injuries.

Detectives said it appeared the two cars had stopped at a red light on University Avenue at Iowa Avenue when shots were exchanged between the occupants in the cars at some point. The investigation also showed that the driver of the red sedan crashed into a sign after the shooting, while the occupants in the silver sedan crashed into a light pole.

Authorities said it was unclear what led to the shooting. The investigation was ongoing.
