FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- One man was killed and another hospitalized after being shot near a park in Fontana Tuesday evening.

Authorities said shortly after 7 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the Veteran's Park area near Palmetto and Merrill avenues. When police arrived, two men who appeared to be in their mid 50s were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other received treatment. The second victim's condition was unknown.

Authorities said a baseball game may have been going on at the time of the shooting so they hope witnesses will come forward.

The investigation was ongoing. No further information was immediately released.
