Southern Californians bundling up for big chill
LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- This is expected to be the coldest weekend of the year, with a freeze warning in place for many communities of Southern California.
Some cities, particularly in the deserts and mountains, are expected to drop below freezing overnight Saturday and Sunday.
Some mountain communities may see a high of only 36 degrees during the day Sunday, while temperatures will plummet to 14 overnight.
In the Antelope Valley, people could be seen outdoors Saturday night bundled up in thick layers.
Lusine Coppock was in downtown Lancaster wearing multiple layers, a jacket and scarf as she headed out for a coffee to warm up.
"It's like cutting your face," the Palmdale resident said. "The wind is coming at you."
Officials reminded pet owners to bring their animals indoors.
More cold weather is expected Sunday night as well. A slight warming is in the forecast, however, later in the week by the time winter officially begins Wednesday.
