LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A record 4.3 million travelers are expected to go through Los Angeles International Airport during the holiday season, with Wednesday being one of the busiest days.

The new record is a 9.5 percent increase from last year's record of 3.9 million, according to the airport.

The holiday travel period started Friday and ends on Jan. 3, with each day having an average of more than 233,000 passengers. Wednesday and Friday will be the busiest days for travelers, with about 239,000 people passing through.

Travelers can also expect a lot of traffic as more than 1.8 million cars are expected to pass through the airport. The peak will be Wednesday when more than 108,000 cars may go through.

The slowest days for travel are expected to be Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day as only about 194,000 to 198,000 people will pass through the airport. On average, LAX sees about 221,000 travelers daily.

The airport urges travelers to come in at least two hours before any domestic flights and three hours before international flights.

In addition to a record number of passengers at LAX, the Ontario Airport is expected to see nearly 155,000 travelers between Friday and Jan. 3. That is a 5.5 percent increase compared to 2015.

The busiest days for Ontario are expected to be Friday, Saturday and Jan. 3.
