HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were injured after a driver allegedly ran them over and took off following a dispute outside a bar in Huntington Beach, witnesses say.

Huntington Beach police responded to a call of a vehicle striking two pedestrians in the 16900 block of Algonquin Street shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers and firefighters arrived, two victims were transported with moderate injuries. Police said a male driver backed out of a spot, hit both pedestrians, abandoned his car and fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a white man between 20 and 30 years old, with blonde hair, wearing a red T-shirt and jeans, police said.

Witness Maxwell Rumgay said there was an argument among three people at the bar, and a man who appeared intoxicated got into a vehicle and hit two people with his car door. Those people were apparently trying to stop him from getting behind the wheel. There were reports that the victims were dragged by the vehicle, but that has not been confirmed by police.

"He knew that the people were in his doorjamb with the door open. He proceeded to accelerate backwards, hitting them with the door and then hit another car, dragging them on the ground," Rumgay said.

An investigation into the crash was ongoing.
