LOS FELIZ, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two armed robbers burst into a $3-million home in Los Feliz on Wednesday night and tied up two women before fleeing with jewelry and cash, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 10:15 p.m. at a five-bedroom house in the 4400 block of Cromwell Avenue, just north of Los Feliz Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The masked suspects, armed with handguns, entered the residence through a back door, then used duct tape and zip ties to bind a homeowner and a caretaker, who were pushed into a bedroom, said an LAPD spokesperson. One of the victims was forced to open a safe.

The intruders took an unknown amount of property and money, investigators said. It was unclear if they fled on foot or in a vehicle.

The homeowner and caretaker were not seriously injured.

Descriptions of the robbers were not immediately available.

Neighbor James Tully said the area is a sleepy community, but on nights that the nearby Greek Theatre is having a show, it's flooded with strangers. He thinks the thieves may have used the commotion for cover.

Other neighbors said the property seems too intimidating to be randomly targeted.

"I would be nervous to go into that property and not know my way around it and not know who's inside or if there's dogs," said neighborhood resident Annie Segal.

LAPD investigators said they were looking into whether the crime is related to a similar robbery that occurred on the same night in the West Hills area. In that case, police said a pair of armed robbers knocked on the victim's door at about 9:30 p.m., forced their way in and tied up an elderly woman before ransacking the place and taking off.

Police said they were investigating surveillance video from both homes to help figure out whether the cases are connected.
