PERRIS, Calif. (KABC) -- A Perris man narrowly escaped injury Monday when an SUV plowed into his living room in a crash that was captured on surveillance video.

The Nissan Pathfinder slammed into the home while Paul Stewart's 22-year-old son was at home with the family's dogs.

The harrowing footage shows the pets scrambling to safety as the vehicle plows through a wall and into multiple pieces of furniture, scattering debris.

While neither Stewart's son nor the dogs were hurt, the collision ruptured several water pipes and resulted in significant water damage.

Police told Stewart that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. It was unclear if the motorist was injured or arrested.
