WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver survived a violent car crash in front of a Whittier apartment complex, and the terrifying wreck was caught on video.

Security cameras show the Chevrolet sedan flipping and then crashing into a light pole and parked car.

The crash happened shortly before midnight Saturday in the 14400 block of Mulberry Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Few details were released, but CHP officials said the driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Gianni Cortez, a resident who lives in the building in front of the crash site, explained what he heard, saying it sounded like "a train wreck coming my way."

"She hit that van, lost a tire and then at the curb there, her car flipped upside down," he added. "She just skidded along at a high speed and just slammed right here, into a pole and a parked car that was right here."

Cortez said he and other neighbors got the woman out of the car and helped her until officials arrived.

An eyewitness said the woman kept asking about a baby, saying her boyfriend left her, and she kept repeating that she was robbed, though there was no sign of a child or anyone else in the car.

Authorities were looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
