Young actor Jacob Tremblay loves message of kindness in new movie 'Wonder'

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actor Jacob Tremblay, 11, wowed audiences playing Oscar-winner Brie Larson's son in the 2015 movie, "Room." Now he is playing Julia Roberts' little boy in "Wonder."

The film has made $154 million since opening last month, and it's still going strong.

"I love this movie so much because of the message," Tremblay said. "You choose kind."

The young actor spent two hours in make-up every day to play a boy with a genetic disorder that affects the development of bones and tissues in the face.

In the film, based on the best-selling book of the same name, the boy's parents decide it's time to send him to school to be with other kids. And some of them are not very kind.

"I think bullying usually happens at school, and school is a place where kids need to feel safe so they can learn and develop who they are," Tremblay said. "And, I mean, they can't do that if people are judging them."

For "Wonder," Tremblay is once again receiving accolades for his work, including a recent Critics' Choice nomination. Besides his career as an actor, Tremblay is already looking toward the future.

"I really want to go to college to learn about screenwriting, screenplay writing," he said. "Because that's something that I am thinking about wanting to do when I'm an adult."

"Wonder" is in theaters now.
