2 men shot dead in Compton; investigation underway
An investigation is underway in Compton, where two men were shot to death.

COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation is underway in Compton, where two men were shot to death.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday on the 100 block of E. Caldwell Street near S. Willowbrook Avenue.

Deputies responding to the scene found two men - one in the middle of the street and the other on the sidewalk - suffering from gunshots to their upper torsos. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said there is no known motive for the shooting or any known suspects. A weapon was not recovered at the scene.

The identities of the victims were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Those who live in the neighborhood are remaining tight-lipped. Police are asking for anyone with any information to come forward.

"It's cases like these that are tremendously solved by the communities so it's important that if the community, anyone heard something, they know anything, please call us," said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said they don't know yet whether the shooting was gang related.
