LA VERNE, Calif. (KABC) -- A 14-year-old girl in La Verne was impaled in the leg by an iron fence when she tried to jump over it early Sunday morning.

According to police, the teenager was just getting back to David & Margaret Youth and Family Services Center, a county-owned placement home, in the 1300 block of Third Street around 4:30 a.m.

Authorities said she was trying to hop over the fence when she punctured her thigh.

Fire crews used the Jaws of Life to remove the girl from the fence.

Police said she was transported to Brackett Field Airport and then airlifted to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.
