Motorist abandons wrecked car on 405 Freeway, causes fiery crash in Lawndale area

LAWNDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A search is underway for a hit-and-run driver blamed for a fiery crash on the 405 Freeway in the Lawndale area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle struck the center divider on the southbound 405 Freeway around 4:20 a.m. near Rosecrans Avenue. After the collision, the driver took off on foot.

Then, officials said another vehicle hit the first car, causing the unattended car to burst into flames.

At least two people from the second vehicle were taken to the hospital. Their conditions were unknown.

CHP officials said alcohol may have been a factor in the first crash.
