Girl who lost all in Woolsey Fire, Glendale Fire, RadNet join forces to spread holiday cheer

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Over 200 children with the Department of Children and Family Services received toys during a Spark of Love toy giveaway.

A 7-year-old girl whose family lost all in the Woolsey Fire, members of the Glendale Fire Department and healthcare company RadNet joined forces with Spark of Love to spread holiday cheer.

Foster children, some of them with special needs, enjoyed an afternoon of fun. KABC's own George Pennacchio and Marc Brown were on hand to greet the kids and help them pick out toys.

After experiencing a tragedy, 8-year-old Sophia Novotny dedicated herself to helping other kids. Sophia and her family lost their home and most of their belongings in last year's Woolsey fire.

$45,000 raised during Sophia's toy drive was donated to Spark of Love.

"The night we noticed our house burned down I was just like...I want to do a toy drive," Sophia said.

Some kids had experiences they'll never forget including meeting Glendale firefighters who gave them a close-up look at their trucks and the tools they use to battle fires.

"It reinforces what Christmas is all about. In our day-to-day lives we can take a lot of things for granted and some kids that are underprivileged, to see them have this experience really brings it home for us," said Battalion Chief Todd Tucker, Glendale Fire Department.
