Eye on L.A.: Where to find the best comfort food in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- If there is one thing our Eye in L.A. Facebook fans love, it's comfort food! So host Tina Malave sampled some of the best -- all over the Los Angeles area.
CLASSIC COMFORT
Think Gramma's cooking with sloppy Joes at Idle Hour or feel like a kid again at SpreadPB with their peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches. The smell of fresh roasted brew is enough to make you feel comfy and cozy at Zia Valentina, where it's not just coffee, it's coffee with a twist!
VINTAGE-STYLE COMFORT FOOD
Idle Hour is a vintage-inspired establishment built in the 1940s, where comfort food is the foundation of their menu. They offer everything from mac 'n' cheese to their famous sloppy Joe.
PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY CAFE
SpreadPB is all about peanut butter! Feel like a kid again with made-to-order peanut butter sandwich concoctions with all kinds of spreads, breads and fillings.
WAFFLE CONE COFFEE SHOTS
Zia Valentina isn't just any kind of coffee shop. They use creativity to incorporate different flavors into their coffee. You've gotta try their waffle shots -- a shot of espresso in a waffle cone shaped like an espresso cup.
JUST LIKE MAMA USED TO MAKE
Nothing says comfort like a warm bowl of soup at Colonia Publica in Whittier or a cheesy quesadilla from Border Grill. And we can't forget the classic L.A. favorite -- tacos! Sunset Magazine helped us find some of the best in L.A.
FIDEO!
Colonia Publica focuses on one of the ultimate Mexican comfort foods, Fideo, a pasta soup made with vermicelli in a tomato spiced broth that you get to top yourself. They also have a vegan vegetable broth as an option.

CHEESE, CHEESE, CHEESE
If you love cheese, Border Grill is your place. Their quesadillas have been popular since 1985, and they've kept the same special cheese mix all these years, featuring Cacique cheeses including Panela and Cotija.
TACO TOUR
We teamed up with Sunset Magazine in search of the best tacos in L.A. My Tace in Highland Park is known for their Barbacoa Lamb Tacos. Over at Mexicali Taco & Co., their wafer-thin flour tortillas come directly from Mexicali at least twice a week. The Guerrilla Tacos food truck was chosen for getting creative with ingredients, like their sweet potato taco with roasted potato, feta cheese, fried corn, almond or pine nut chili and scallions.
I DON'T CARE, I'M EATING IT!
We're helping you toss the scale out the window by introducing you to Barrel and Ashes for the best BBQ and down home cooking, and Tripel Burger for one of the best burgers in town.
FRITO PIE AND HOE CAKES
Barrel and Ashes is best known for their BBQ, but they also have unforgettable signature dishes that had to make our comfort foods list! You have to try the Fritos Chili at least once. It's a chili baked potato with Fritos, Texas chili, cheddar cheese, green onions and sour cream. And don't forget to order the Hoe Cake!
THE TRIPEL BURGER
The Tripel is best known for their signature burger, The Tripel, with a patty of duck confit combined with ground pork and ground aged rib eye on top of a brioche bun coated in truffle pecorino, and topped with fresh arugula salad and housemade apricot jam.
SWEET TREATS
As part of our comfort food extravaganza, we would never, could never forget dessert! Afters Ice Cream has the most incredible, kid-adoring treats, and we found Sensitive Sweets for those with allergies or dietary restrictions - so everybody can share in the fun!
AFTERS ICE CREAM
Afters Ice Cream is for all ice cream lovers, young and old, just make sure to leave your diet at the door! Best known for their Milky Bun, an ice cream-filled doughnut. They have a special machine that seals up the doughnut, keeping the ice cream cold inside while the outside is heated to give you that delicious, hot-cold effect.
SENSITIVE SWEETS
Sensitive Sweets is dedicated to yummy baked goods anyone can enjoy. Everything is made from scratch and made for people with dietary restrictions. They have everything from bread pudding and cookie dough truffles, to cupcakes and bread.
