Real-life Robin Hood throws Easter feast in Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man who goes by the moniker "Robin Hood" hosted a free dinner for the needy and less fortunate in Santa Monica on Easter.
The man, who does not wish to be identified, has a history of philanthropy that he's performed under the nickname "Robin Hood 702."
On Sunday, Robin, along with Rao's Restaurant and Tender Greens Restaurant, fed hundreds Easter supper at St. Anne Catholic Church and Shrine.
"We're just trying to change the way the world is and we're trying to bring communities together," Robin said.
David Weiner, a local businessman, presented the church's deacon with a check for about $13,000.
The Santa Monica Police Department and Santa Monica Fire Department were also honored at the event.
In August 2014, Robin went from improving lives to saving them. Robin was driving down Washington Street near Culver City, when he noticed thick black smoke coming from an apartment complex. He jumped out of his car and sprang into action, ultimately saving a man from a burning apartment.
