Woman pays it forward, gives late dog's custom-built wagon to another dog in need

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) -- Risa Feldman's dog, Ike, passed away two months ago at the age of 15. She had rescued the Irish wolfhound mix when he was 3 years old from the Much Love Organization.

"Ike was in every sense of the word, my best friend and constant companion," Feldman said in a letter.

In February, Ike was diagnosed with bone cancer and given two to eight months to live.

"Due to his age, neither amputation, surgery to repair the fracture or chemo was an option," Feldman said.

But Ike was used to daily walks on The Strand in Manhattan Beach, so she went to Home Depot in Hawthorne in hopes of finding material to build a wagon.

Instead, two Home Depot employees offered to build the wagon for Ike. He used the wagon until April 14 when he died.

Hoping to pass on the favor, Feldman donated the wagon on Saturday to a dog named T.C., who was recently paralyzed after suffering a herniated disc.

"To be able to pay it forward and give a wagon to another dog in need, I didn't realize how good it would feel today to pass it on and see that it's going to help both Bill and T.C. in recovery and in his healing," Feldman said.
