Long Beach suspicious device rendered safe by bomb squad

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A Los Angeles County sheriff's bomb squad safely removed a suspicious device from an alley in Long Beach on Tuesday.

A concerned citizen reported seeing the object near Bonito and 3rd Street around 1 a.m.

Bomb squad members arrived on scene and were able to remove the device and render it safe by around 4:45 a.m.

Some area residents were evacuated as a precaution, but all have since been allowed back in their homes.

The incident was under investigation. Authorities have not determined if the object was an explosive device or not.
