Ex-LAPD officer accused in Pomona killing pleads not guilty

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A former Los Angeles Police Department officer accused of killing a man outside a bar in Pomona and then fleeing to Mexico with the help of his father has pleaded not guilty to murder and other counts.

Henry Solis, 27, entered his pleas in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom Friday morning.

In addition to the murder count, Solis faces charges including assault with a firearm and an allegation that he personally discharged a handgun.

Police say Solis fatally shot 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez following a fight outside a bar in Pomona on March 13. He was captured in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez on May 26 after a two-month manhunt, deported to Texas and returned to California in June.

If convicted as charged, Solis could face life in prison. He remains in jail in lieu of $10 million bail. Solis is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 28.
