COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A search is underway for a man who stabbed a young woman several times on the campus of Tri-Community Adult Education in unincorporated Covina.

Authorities say the 23-year old victim was skateboarding with a group of friends near Cienega and Bonnie Cove avenues around 12:45 a.m. Monday, when a man on a bicycle came up and attacked her.

The suspect abandoned his bike, jumped over a fence and took off running.

The victim was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.

Investigators say the victim and the suspect know each other, but it's not clear what led up to the attack.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department described the suspect as a transient white male in his 20s, around 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds with blue eyes and short, blond hair.
