WILLOWBROOK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two elderly women were killed in a car accident at a Willowbrook intersection Friday night.

Around 5:30 p.m., an 84-year-old woman from Compton was driving a 2002 Jaguar X-Type northbound on Central Avenue. She attempted to make a left turn onto El Segundo Boulevard.

For some unknown reason, the driver turned left directly into the path of an oncoming 2011 Kia Sorento, causing it to crash into the right side of the Jaguar. The 82-year-old passenger, of Compton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken to St. Francis Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. The 20-year-old Lynwood resident and driver of the Kia suffered only minor injuries.

The investigation was ongoing.
