ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 32-year-old Altadena man was killed after he accidently shot himself during his first hunting trip in Maryland over the weekend.
Vincent Cavallo either slipped or dropped his gun while he was deer hunting on Saturday, and the gun discharged in his face.
Police said he was found by his uncle, who had been hunting with him.
The two were separated before Cavallo's gun went off, police said. His uncle heard a shot just before 9:30 a.m. and found his nephew's body.
The men were hunting deer on private property on the first day of Maryland's deer hunting season.
Investigators and family members said Cavallo took a firearms safety course and practiced at shooting ranges before his trip.
His death was ruled an accident by police.
