ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Anaheim police arrested a man they say was in possession of several pounds of possibly explosive materials at an assisted living facility Saturday morning.

Authorities said they were called to the facility in the 200 block of N. Dale Avenue on reports of a resident possibly making illegal fireworks in his room. When officers arrived, the man was cooperative and showed them the materials.

Upon further investigation, authorities found the materials were potentially explosive and it prompted a response from the Orange County sheriff's bomb squad and Hazardous Materials specialists. The building was partially evacuated while authorities confiscated the materials.

Authorities said there was no indication the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Mark Schimm, was going to make anything other than an illegal firework type of device. They added there was no connection to terrorism.

Schimm was booked for felony possession of materials with intent to make a destructive device, possession of a destructive device without a permit and arson. He was booked at Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
