January 23, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
The L.A. County Board of Supervisors announced a crackdown on plastic grocery bags. It's asking large grocers to limit the number of plastic bags they use by 2013.The board hopes to reduce the number of bags being tossed in the landfill or out on the streets.

If the request doesn't work, there could be an all-out ban on those bags.

Supervisors also voted to take a look at legislation that would allow the county to charge shoppers a fee for every plastic bag that's used.
