Group wants stronger warnings on Botox

January 25, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
A consumer watchdog group is asking the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to put stronger warnings on the popular cosmetic drug Botox.According to the group Public Citizen, Botox has been linked to 16 deaths, which occurred after the botulism toxin spread inside the person's body.

Because of the deaths, the group is asking the FDA to put so-called "black box warnings" on Botox products so consumers will be aware of the possibility of dangerous side effects.

Botox is commonly used to smooth facial wrinkles.
