8 children injured in school bus crash

CHINO Someone running a red light is being blamed for triggering the frightening crash, which also injured three adults.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Monte Vista and Eucalyptus. Apparently a white Infinite ran a red light and hit the school bus. The bus veered off the street into a parking lot, then hit a building and several cars.

A number of people were onboard the bus, including eight children. The bus was headed to Edwards Preschool.

All of the injuries were minor, but the victims were taken to local hospitals to be safe. One child had a cut on the forehead.

All of the children were in child safety seats at the time of the crash, possibly the main reason why the injuries weren't worse.

"It's like a tragedy was avoided, I'm sure the child seats in the school bus played a part in minimizing the injuries to the children as well," said Officer Sean Cooper, CHP. "So it was a lucky day. It looks like we only have some property damage and some minor injuries."

"We saw so many emergency vehicles here and then the location of the bus, you just had to scratch your head and say how did this happen? What could have caused this to happen? It was certainly a big question and I'm sure it still will be for a while," said Julian Saldarriaca, a nearby employee.

The driver of the Infinite also sustained minor injuries. She will be cited for speeding and running a red light.
