Vote to ban plastic bags postponed

SANTA MONICA The proposed ordinance was supposed to be discussed Tuesday night, but the issue was set aside for another meeting.

One city councilmember called for the measure which would eliminate plastic bags from grocery stores and charge customers for paper bags. He wants shoppers to bring their own bags to the store.

At least one national grocery store chain will stop using plastic bags by the end of April.
