Mirthala Salinas is back on the air

BURBANK "I am very happy today to announce my return to journalism. This is what I have done my whole life and this is what I want to continue to do," said Mirthala Salinas. "It is a new area for me nonetheless, and it is an area that I know very well.

Salinas is the new co-host of Hoy por hoy, a news magazine show, that was launched by W Radio 690. The high-powered Spanish-language station can be heard from Los Angeles to the Mexican border.

Eyewitness News was able to listen in to a Friday morning broadcast that addressed wide-ranging topics from the debates, filing taxes, immigration and the Oscars.

Last year, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made his relationship with Salinas public after he had announced that he and his wife, Corina, had separated. Salinas had disclosed earlier to her bosses that she could no longer cover the mayor, but after all of the publicity she was taken off the air.

Eyewitness News reporter Miriam Hernandez asked Salinas if she is ready to speak out about what happened with the mayor.

"Every question is a fair question. Out of respect for other people, this is a topic that I choose not to comment on," said Salinas. "It has been a learning experience. It is a part of my life that I am still evaluating. That is all I am prepared to say at this time, thank you very much."

The publicist for the station says that Salinas may be discussing elements from her past with the mayor on the radio show. According to the Times, aides to the mayor did disclose that the two had parted ways many months ago.
