Scientists study statins, side effects

The scientists studied statins, the widely popular cholesterol-lowering drugs. They say those drugs may interact with at least one blood pressure drug and damage cells.

Many patients who take the meds report side effects, including muscle pain and weakness.

Researchers say the findings may lead to new drugs for the treatment of diabetes and diseases of aging, plus better ways to screen for drug side effects.
