March 7, 2008 12:00:00 AM PST
When smokers are told the age of their lungs, they are more prone to quit. That's according to a new British study.

Scientists measured the lung function of 561 long-term smokers older than 35. One group was not told its lung capacity or age.

Scientists found that 13 percent of the smokers who were told their lung age had quit one year later, while only 6 percent in the other group had stopped.

The study is in the British Medical Journal.
