Family of man shot by LAPD plans lawsuit

The family of a man shot and killed by LAPD officers is expected to file a $10 million lawsuit Monday against the city of Los Angeles.The shooting happened Mar. 2 in the Crenshaw District. The family's attorney claims police opened fire on Maurice Cox Jr. as he was running away from the scene of a traffic crash on Crenshaw Blvd. Police say Cox threatened to kill the officers, then pointed what appeared to be a gun at them.

The family's attorney says the "gun" turned out to be a cigarette lighter power adapter.
