March 24, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Controversy surrounds a local state senator known for touting financial responsibility. The L.A. Times reported that McClintock accepted tax-free payments totaling $306,000 for maintaining a second house in Sacramento, even though he moved there permanently in 1996.

The payments are for legislators who live far from the state capitol.

McClintock argues that he is entitled to the money because Thousand Oaks is his legal city of residence.
