Race may be factor in gang violence

March 27, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Police Chief William Bratton are now saying that race may have played a role in the city's recent wave of gang violence. For weeks, the two suggested that victims were not targeted because of their race. Bratton added that there is no evidence in the crimes that would support hate crime charges.

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey paid a visit to L.A. as part of his commitment to help stop gang violence.

Mukasey announced the arrest of four members of the Grape Street Crips gang and a newly FBI funded "safe streets task force."
