40 packs of school supplies? Try 100

Cool Kid Malcolm Brinkley
CORONA Cool Kid Malcolm Brinkley started a trash can and cleaning service at the age of 10. He turned that enterprising nature and boundless energy to helping children at a local homeless shelter by filling backpacks with school supplies.

"My goal of the whole project -- I just want 40 backpacks. But in the long run, I turned out to sell myself short, and I got 100 backpacks," said Malcolm. "Plus, I got a $900 check to give to the shelter, also."

As the collections grew, Malcolm saw the impact of his deeds hit close to home -- literally and figuratively.

"Soon enough, after all the support I was getting through the whole project, it really became really personal. It really became personal. I mean, my room became so full of donations and backpacks," said Malcolm. "I couldn't move in my room. I was like... This is from people that too their time to help me and to help other people in the community."

But the moment he delivered those supplies to those young people, Malcolm knew the result was worth all the effort.

"Right there, it just got me right in the heart," said Malcolm. "I was like, 'Oh man, I'm doing something really good here.' And it really just made me think that we really do need to help people. We really do."

Cleaning up and lifting up his community, he is our Cool Kid.
